Warren Harding was in the White House and the Nobel Prize was awarded to Albert Einstein. He quit his school teaching job and rented space on the west side of Mayfield’s court square where he began selling insurance and real estate services.
Along the way, H. C. met lots of friends and clients, listed and sold lots of real estate, won a train trip to the national Woodman Insurance Convention in Kansas City, partnered with Coy Cook (founder of Dairyman’s Supply) and Black Humphries (founder of Mayfield Loose Leaf Floors), served as Mayfield Mayor, and added another baby girl to the family. He worked every day until just before his death in
After the war in 1945 Ralph T returned from Europe, graduated from Murray State on the GI Bill, and began to diversify the firm into mortgage lending and commercial real estate development. As he listed and sold thousands of homes, farms, and businesses across the county, he developed Randview and Greenwood Acres subdivisions, built a new Kroger at 9th and Water, earned the coveted MAI appraisal designation, and joined with Mary Julia to raise 5 children. At 91 years, Ralph still works every day and stands as one of 2 Kentuckians to serve as President of the Kentucky Association of Realtors (1967) and the Kentucky Chapter of the Appraisal Institute (1988).
After graduating from UK, Tommy joined the firm in 1977 and further diversified the firm by becoming an MAI, an auctioneer, working alongside the Century 21 organization from 1979 till 2013, and concentrating on real estate appraisals and commercial developments in various corners of western KY.
